I’m a classically-trained pianist with almost 22 years of playing under my belt. However it was only in 2019 that I started playing music without a score to follow. I started improvising songs based on how I was feeling in any given moment.

This was a huge change from how I was taught to play: to follow every note perfectly. This method had led to me developing tendonitis in the middle of my practice for a performance exam through the Royal Conservatory so I could be an officiall-certified performer and teacher.

This injury set my formal music training and plans back, forcing me to press pause and for a few years I set the piano aside and travelled the world instead. And to this day I still have to be very conscious to not push myself.

But come 2019, I was inspired to dive into creating music instead of just playing it when a friend asked if I would write a song for her. I owe a lot to that friend, because I am now sharing my music making on Twitch. You can find me streaming morning music and even a little night music, five days a week at:

twitch.tv/innkeeperarr

Most days I stream my improvisation, inspired by audience suggestions and requests – my music is best described as a meditative walk through the woods. As I have many songs that I love from my years of classical training, I often play songs by Debussy, Chopin, Ravel and modern composers like Koji Kondo, Joe Hisaishi, Ludovico Einaudi and George Winston.

I also compose my own original songs, inspired by nature, magic and favourite stories.

Check out these original improvisations as recorded during Twitch streams.

May the wind be always at your back!
