Being Creative
Every marketing expert and guru of the internet gabs on and on (just talk, talk and more talk) about branding yourself. Sticking yourself to one particular image, one particular style. A bit like if an actor purposely typecast themselves (which I think most, understandably hate and try to avoid like the plague). I stand by that. I get bored doing the same thing for a week, let alone for years at a time. I’ve always been someone who has done many different pursuits at once and that carries into my creativity.
Starting a mini-series of storybook styled images for a short break from the usual photo poems. September starting up has suddenly ate most of my “me” time I devote to creative pursuits and I’m not fond of that anymore. Are you?
Looking Forward to the Fall of Autumn
I’m in the process navigating this page into both a place for my creative expression and more as a spot to build a community of people who have always wanted to do something creative but have no idea where to start, beyond that initial daydream or bedtime idea.
The internet has turned everything into such a race to show off and be a business when really, we need more than ever, a community of support rather than individualistic competition and hyena-pack in-fighting.
What Does that Matter to You?
I’ll endeavour to keep up a schedule of Tuesday, Thursday posts which will be travel stories or poetry and as I go along and figure out how to fit in my writing experiences, I may include that in my Tuesday, Thursday rounds, or another day entirely.
Regardless of my own journey’s, perhaps you have an idea which runs through your mind as you fall asleep at night or wanders through breaks during the day. Perhaps you’ve tried starting something, or you have something completed but don’t know what to do next, don’t know if you’re doing something right or just need a confidence boost.
If so, I encourage you to keep at it. Most creativity is less about the idea and more about the perseverance (and the organisation). I’m going to start bringing people together who are willing to share their challenges. I want to start conversations that help you and others, rather than just talking at you about my experiences or entertaining you with my worlds of thought. The internet does plenty of that these days and I also don’t want to be just another “insert creative pursuit here” tip site.
I want to start with ideas, with prompts and walk you through, structures, formulas, styles or specific critiques, reviews and whatever you may want or need to turn your idea into a story of any format. A bit like an alchemist making lead into gold, but better, because stories are universal and eternal. All of this goes into what I may be adding as my third type of post, an exploration of the writing process I am deep within, to give you an insiders look.
