The Girl and Her Tiger: Wandering Together When the fog rolled over the northern moors, doors were shut and lights went on. A practice designed to keep away the wisps which danced and the voices which talked and led anyone, foolish enough to walk in the fog, far away to never returned. Like the little …
Walk in the Footsteps of Giants: A Short Drabble from the Stormy Inn Series
I moved over the weekend and have numerous creative projects and challenges on the go. I’m living next to the ocean now and all I can think about is imagery and stories with water involved. Nonetheless, here’s another excerpt from my tales from the Inn of Stormy Nights. Walk in The Footsteps The wind blew …
The Great Writing Debate: Inspired or Chair?
The Great Debate: (or one of them anyway) The people who always say “butt in chair” in order to get your stories written are not wrong. The people who always say “inspiration makes your work shine” in order to write quality stories are not wrong. Both have good points that I feel we often lose …
How to Turn to Childhood for Inspiration
Thoughts on the Future, Looking to the Past The value of childhood lies not in the experiences the child hastily wishes themselves out of but in the years later, as the child stands with eyes toward the future and a grateful heart cast to the past. Long ago, if we pull back the vine of …
Being Creative: Building a Community of Imagination
Being Creative Every marketing expert and guru of the internet gabs on and on (just talk, talk and more talk) about branding yourself. Sticking yourself to one particular image, one particular style. A bit like if an actor purposely typecast themselves (which I think most, understandably hate and try to avoid like the plague). I …
Hello, Friend, Farewell: A Poem for the Solace of Nature
Hello, friends! Unlike with the Doors of Moria, when the Fellowship in the The Lord of the Rings seek to enter the mines, there is no secret pass code for finding peace, happiness, love, any of those things. However, I find all those emotions exist at once, in your grasp, if you step out your …
Poem: Listen to the Walls Where Stories Talk
Listen to the Walls Where Stories Talk Sunlight whispers in eaves, hugged by leaves. Wrapped in green. Skylarks whistle to their Juliets. Who walk with eyes turned high, upon the blue sky. In this place, stars echo and stay in cotton shapes on blue paint. They swirl down the wave of tree top hands. Sunlight …
Castaway

Look. If you only listen, step quiet and stop. Peer through the shutters, out into the night.
There exist worlds only wished for from the tips of fingers.
Can you find one?
If you do, step light, look far and near or you might find yourself falling through a crack you never meant to touch.
Alone I Have the World: It Lives Within Me and You: A Poem
Here’s to all the new adventures to those far, wide and wondrous places of the heart, mind and universe! If I had the world Alone. I would chase the caribou across icy shields. If I had the world Alone. I would travel with the trumpet swan, eating fireflies. If I had the world Alone. I …
The Lighthouse

Above the clouds, with the stars, sits a lighthouse full of books which wrap around the winding staircase until the tower’s peak hits the ceiling of the universe.
At this peak is a light which shines through a window. A long trail of gold which glitters brighter than any pot at a rainbow’s end. Those are just illusions you know. But this light, this light is real.
When you look out your window, in the corner of your house, or glance at the lamp at the end of the street, that light you see, flashing from the edge of your eye, that is the trail which tracks from every planet in every galaxy, right back to the small window at the peak of the lighthouse.
So when you greet the new year, the new day, the new hour, look up above the clouds, with the stars. You might just spot the lighthouse.
